Dua for Breaking the Fast
Where this dua comes from
Reported from Ibn Umar, this dua is said the moment the fast is broken — traditionally after eating a date or taking water, following the Sunnah described in other hadith about how the Prophet ﷺ broke his own fast. Unlike many adhkar that ask for something, this one is phrased almost entirely in the past and present tense, describing what has just happened physically (thirst gone, the body rehydrating) before turning, only in the last clause, to the spiritual side — the reward for the day's fast being made firm, qualified with "if Allah wills." That structure is part of why it's so widely used specifically at iftar rather than as a general dua: it's tied to the physical sensation of the moment, not an abstract request.
When to recite
Immediately at iftar, after breaking the fast.
